At Colonial Grove Memorial Park, our Rules and Regulations exist for one simple reason: to protect the beauty, dignity, and peace of the grounds for every family who visits. They’re not meant to restrict — they’re meant to make sure everyone can enjoy this space with the same care and respect it was designed for.
General Rules of Conduct
- No walking of dogs shall be permitted in the Cemetery.
- Bicycles are allowed in the roadways only; skate boards are not allowed anywhere on Cemetery grounds.
- Beer or intoxicating liquors within the Cemetery are strictly forbidden.
- Nothing shall be installed or placed on the place of sepulcher unless permitted by these regulations or specifically authorized by the Corporation.
- The Corporation and their agents have authority to enter upon any area and to remove any unauthorized article that may be placed there contrary to the regulations of said Corporation and dispose of same at the Corporation’s discretion.
- No person shall be permitted to enter or leave the Cemetery except by regular roadways and walkways established for the purpose of entering and leaving the Cemetery.
- Any person found on the grounds after dark, without written permission from the Corporation, will be considered an unlawful trespasser and will be dealt with according to Virginia and Federal Statutes.
- Speed of over 15 miles per hour will not be permitted, and no person shall either ride or drive upon the lawns.
- No person will be permitted to use profane or boisterous language or in any way disturb the quiet and good order of the Cemetery.
- All persons are strictly forbidden to break or injure any tree or shrub or mar any landmark, marker, or memorial or in any way deface the grounds of the Cemetery.
- All persons are forbidden to hunt or to fish or to feed or disturb the fish, fowl or other animals about the Cemetery.
- No money shall be paid to the attendants at the entrance or on the grounds. These personnel are full-time employees of the Corporation. Visitors and Owners must not otherwise engage them. All orders, inquiries, and complaints must be left at the office.
- No person or persons other than a duly authorized employee of the Corporation shall be permitted to bring or carry firearms within the Cemetery except a Military guard of honor and then only when in the charge of an officer during a Military Service.
- If any tree, shrub, or plant standing upon any area, by means of its roots, branches or otherwise, be or become detrimental to adjacent areas or avenues, or if for any reason its removal is deemed necessary, the Corporation shall have the right, and it shall be their duty, to remove such tree, shrub, or plant or any part thereof, or otherwise correct the condition existing as in their judgment seems best.
- If any visitor or owner of sepulcher rights should desire to do anything not specified in these Rules and Regulations, he or she is invited to inquire at the office for permission or clarification before doing or causing any act not covered in these Rules and Regulations.
- All persons are reminded that the Cemetery Grounds are sacredly devoted to the burial of the human dead and that the provisions and penalties of the law, as provided by statute, will be strictly enforced in all cases of wanton injury, disturbance and disregard of the rules and regulations of the Corporation.
Floral Regulations
- Cut or real flowers are permitted in approved vases. They will be removed when wilted.
- Permanent flowers or artificial flowers will be permitted in approved vases.
- All vases used on regular ground sepulcher spaces shall be sub-surfaceable type and approved by the Corporation.
- No vases or other containers of any type are permitted on above ground mausoleum crypt fronts.
- In most cases, special locations and methods for mausoleum flower tributes are provided by the Corporation. Please check with the Cemetery office for assistance with mausoleum flowers.
- All flowers shall be removed from vases to allow fertilizing and seeding of the Cemetery area during September and March each year. A notice of the exact date of removal will be posted at the Cemetery entrance approximately 30 days prior to removal.
- Special Christmas arrangements and wreaths are permitted from December 15 to January 15. All such decorations must be secured so that the wind will not scatter the arrangement. Please check with the cemetery office for assistance.
- The Corporation does not assume or accept any responsibility for the care of retention of any floral arrangements or decorations.
- All flowers will be removed when they become discolored, wilted, and/or unsightly. Removal will be done at the discretion of the Corporation.
- The following shall not be permitted and if placed shall be removed and disposed of immediately.
- Permanent or artificial flowers, except as a part of the funeral floral display.
- Wreaths, easels, and baskets except as part of a funeral floral offering and during Christmas period, December 15 to January 15.
- Potted Plants, Glass Containers, Spiked-Cone Containers, Tin Cans, Glass Brick flowers, and any non-approved vase or containers.
- Funeral Flowers, holders, containers, baskets, and easels shall be removed on the fifth day after the funeral and disposed of at the Corporation’s discretion.
